EUR/USD Down in Shallow Trading Before New Year

The market had been very slow today during the early trading session but sprang to life after London opening. Although there were no economic reports in Europe today, EUR/USD had declined a little before the US reports came out. The latter were rather negative but failed to stir the currency pair.
Initial jobless claims were at the seasonally adjusted value of 287k during the week ending December 26. The number is above 267k reported for the previous week and 274k expected for today’s report. (Event A on the chart.)
Chicago PMI decreased to 42.9 in December. It fell from 48.7 while an increase to 50.4 had been forecasted. (Event B on the chart.)
