EUR/USD Remains Under Pressure from Greek Problems

EUR/USD declined today as Greece requested a new bailout from the European Stability Mechanism. The currency pair attempted to rebound after the disappointing US economic reports but retreated following the release of the better-than-expected consumer confidence index. S&P/Case-Shiller home price index rose 2.0% in April from a month ago and 4.9% on a year-over-year basis. The annual growth was smaller than the predicted 5.3% and the March’s increase of 5.0%. (Event A on the chart.) Chicago PMI […]

EUR/USD Recovers After Sharp Drop

EUR/USD dropped sharply after the start of the current trading session as the uncertainty surrounding the situation with Greece and its future in the eurozone caused investors to flee European assets. Yet the euro bounced against the dollar afterwards and is trading near the opening level currently. Pending home sales were up 0.9% in May, though market participants were hoping for a bigger increase by 1.3%. The April’s gain was revised from 3.4% down […]

Uncertainty About Greek Bailout Results in Volatile Trading for EUR/USD

Trading was volatile today as traders focused their attention on the negotiations between Greece and its creditors. There were conflicting rumors about the outcome of the talks, giving no clear edge either to the dollar, or to the euro. As a result, EUR/USD currently trades near the opening level. Initial jobless claims rose a little from 268k to 271k last week, matching forecasts exactly. (Event A on the chart.) Personal income demonstrated an increase by 0.5% in May, […]

EUR/USD Pulls Back After Earlier Gains

EUR/USD attempted to rally earlier during the current trading session but pulled back later and is trading not far from the opening level as of now. The dollar firmed against the euro after the report showed that the decline of the US economy during the first quarter of this year was negligible. Additionally, concerns about the situation in Greece continue to weaken the euro. US GDP fell 0.2% in Q1 2015, according to the third and final […]

EUR/USD Sinks on Greek Worries

The dollar surged against the euro today even though economic reports from the United States were mixed while data about manufacturing and services sectors of the eurozone was rather positive. The reason for the euro’s underperformance was the debt crisis in Greece and the resulting risk aversion among investors. Negotiations about a bailout for the indebted country ended without result on Monday, though there were reports that steps towards a conclusive deal have […]

EUR/USD Extends Post-FOMC Gains

EUR/USD rallied today, extending yesterday’s gains. The dollar remained under pressure from the FOMC dovish statement while the euro was supported by rumors about extension of the bailout program for Greece. The currency pair was rising during the first half of the trading session but is struggling to maintain its upward momentum as of now. CPI rose 0.4% in May, missing the analysts’ estimate of 0.5% by a small margin but exceeding the previous month’s […]
